Well, hello humble nesters, and welcome back!
Today, I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart: the importance of staying in shape, especially as we get older. Life is busy—trust me, I get it. As a stay-at-home parent to ten children, including newborn twins, it’s easy to fall into a sedentary lifestyle. Between running a household, tending to little ones, and keeping everyone fed and happy, it can feel like there’s little time left for yourself. But here’s the thing—your health is your wealth, and that includes your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
This morning, I decided it was time to start moving again. With the help of a portable walking pad (thanks, Mom!), I kicked off my day with a quick 10-minute speed walk. Once the blood was pumping, I tackled 50 crunches, 20 leg lifts, 50 bodyweight squats, and 15 push-ups. Did I mention I did all this while the twins were napping, my infant was enjoying a meal, and my preschool-aged toddlers were joining in? If I can carve out time for myself in the midst of all this, so can you.
Staying active isn’t just about fitting into a certain size or looking good—it’s about feeling good. As we age, maintaining strength, endurance, and flexibility becomes crucial for overall health. Exercise helps boost our mood, reduce stress, and keep our energy levels up, which is vital when you’re raising a family. It also sets an amazing example for our kids, showing them that taking care of our bodies is an essential part of life.
When we prioritize our health, we’re better equipped to handle the demands of our day. Whether it’s chasing toddlers around the house or managing the emotional ups and downs that come with parenting, physical activity gives us the stamina and mental clarity to show up as our best selves.
So, to all my humble nesters out there: take the leap. Start small if you need to—10 minutes a day can make a world of difference. Find ways to involve your kids, make it fun, and remember that you’re worth the effort. Let’s focus on building strength, improving our health, and loving ourselves at every stage of life.
Peace, love, light. See you soon!
